      These are places contribute to the identity Hanoi elegant, ancient and contains many interesting stories throughout history. Many of these destinations are located in the center of Hanoi city and quite close together, you can plan tours by motorcycle or even a bicycle.

The very first stop-over of any foreign tourist in Hanoi is always Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (translated as Temple of Literature), which reveals the Hanoians’ spirit of study in the past!

Temple of Literature is located on Van Mieu Street, 2km west of Hoan Kiem Lake. Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam is a famous historical and cultural relic consisting of the Temple of Literature and Vietnam is first university. The Temple of Literature was built in 1070 in honour of Confucius, his followers and Chu Van An, a moral figure in Vietnamese education.

Quoc Tu Giam, or Vietnam's first university, was built in 1076. Throughout its hundreds of years of activity in the feudal, thousands of Vietnamese scholars graduated from this university. 

In 1483 Quoc Tu Giam was changed into Thai Hoc Vien (Higher Educational Institute). After decades of war and natural disasters, the former construction was completely destroyed. In preparation for the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long (present day Hanoi) another construction has been built following the model of the previous Thai Hoc Vien on the same ground.

The work includes the front hall, the back sanctuary, lean-tos on the left and on the right, the courtyard, and subsidiary structures.

This site preserves historical vestiges of a 1,000-year-old civilization such as statues of Confucius and his disciples (Yan Hui, Zengshen, Zisi, Mencius), and ancient constructions such as Khue Van Cac (Pavilion of the Constellation of Literature) and the Worshipping Hall./.

 2. Ha Noi Flag Tower

The Hanoi Flag Tower is one of the buildings of the ancient city of Hanoi area intact.
The Hanoi Flag Tower is located within the Military Museum, Dien Bien Phu Street, Dien Bien ward, Ba Dinh district.
Construction in 1812 under King Gia Long, three-story flagpole base, shaft and staircase spiral system inside. Three floors below are three building blocks stacked from big to small, on the top, trunk that is 20 m tall, hexagon, which sculpted small flowers to the door air and light inside. Top octagonal columns, located to the flag, climbs the highest peak will cover the entire area around
3. Hoan Kiem Lake
Hoan Kiem Lake, Tortoise Tower, Ngoc Son Temple is the relic group, the famous sights, is the pride of the people of Hanoi and the country toward the capital as thousands of years of civilization.


District Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple recognized as historic national culture on 10-7-1980.

Hoan Kiem Lake

Hoan Kiem Lake (also known as Sword Lake) is a freshwater lake located between Hanoi. Hoan Kiem Lake has an area of about 12ha, length is 700m North-South, East-West width is 200m. Surrounding the lake are Le Thai To Street in the west, east Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hang Khay south.

The name given to a lake also called motquan of Hanoi: Hoan Kiem District.

- History

About 6 centuries ago, Hoan Kiem Lake twofold from Hang Dao Street, across the street, Hai Ba Trung, Ly Thuong Kiet to Hang Chuoi, with the Red River. Blue water lake all year round to Hoan Kiem Lake also called Luc Thuy lake.

Legend has it that in the fifteenth century, the lake was renamed the lake Hoan Kiem, associated with the god sword legend returns to Golden Turtle: When Le Loi declared himself King took the reign of Le Thai capital in Thang Long. In one king boat ride on the lake Luc Thuy, suddenly appeared a large tortoise. Le Thai To stretch out the sword flying towards the tortoise. Turtle sucking sword dive to the bottom, and since then Luc Thuy Lake has a new name: Hoan Kiem lake (pay sword) and Sword Lake.

On the lake with two islands: Jade Island and Turtle Island. At the end of the sixteenth century, Lord Trinh covered up in the Bao Thien Ward (now the Cathedral) and in that city near the lake should Nhuom two lakes name is Hope and Ta Huu Vong.

1865, Nguyen Van Sieu name stood out remodel Ngoc Ngoc Son Temple on the island. On the mound Ngoc Boi, he built a tower for the pen. It's north tower and a pen today from the East Coast to go to called The Huc bridge.
